I write to help new writers and I am discovering there are not shortcuts to great writing.

But also it's not rocket science.

Just do the fundamentals well, consistently over a long time.

A lot of the writers I work with get bored with the basics. They want new, clever tricks to help them go viral.

I'm even tempted by this myself.

I'm developing a simple checklist for each article to remind me of what matters.
